Orchestra Portae Apertae (formerly known as the Fichte-Haus-Orchester) was founded in 2001 by Brett Youens and Anne Bornhak. Its mission is to provide satisfying orchestral experience to all musicians, regardless of ability-level.

Because each piece is composed/arranged especially for the orchestra and the abilities of each individual player in mind, players of all abilities are able to take part.  This also makes it possible to incorporate exotic orchestral instruments such as flügelhorn and accordion into the orchestra without problem.
Players ranging from adult beginners to musicians who have been collecting experiences on their instrument since early childhood play in this orchestra each semester.

Additionally, Brett composes a new piece for the orchestra for each new concert.
